a note from your filmmaker / I’m gonna be honest with you — this video was more of a challenge than I thought. Sure I had some key shots in mind that paid homage to the Netflix series, but normally when I edit a wedding film, I have dialogue from vows & speeches to build the storyline. Not with this haha – So building a story with only music was a challenge.
This is where I credit my dance background haha: the process of telling a story with movement and music alone. I love adding in SFX and allowing the footage to dance to the music a bit. Naturally, the storyline of The Weird Sisters playing matchmaker for Sabrina and Nicholas took hold and that’s what you see now. All in all, I love watching this video and hope you did too.
Now for the pictures! We had 3 super talented photography co. join us on this shoot.
Enjoy their beautiful imagery below
the concept / Who knew that my first styled shoot concept would come from me and Kelsey (one of The Weird Sisters) chatting about aliens, then the universe, then crystals & astrology, then The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (CAOS) on Netflix!
This idea became reality a couples months after that conversation and I put together this AMAZING and talented team of all women owned wedding vendors to turn this fun Netflix show into a Dark Wedding concept video, and I’m so happy with how it turned out!
Enjoy the gallery & behind the scenes tidbits below!
Styling: One of the first stops I made was to one of Orlando’s go-to bridal salons, Solutions Bridal! Jessica, the top stylist, personally helped me find not only one but two wedding dresses that paid homage to iconic looks in the CAOS series.
Compare our dresses with the scenes from the show:
It’d be hard to guess we were still in Florida: I chose McKinnon Groves for our shoot location solely for this woodsy area!
fun fact / If you watch the CAOS series, you’ll see they hint towards a few romantic interests for Sabrina but my favorite is Nicholas. Nicholas and Sabrina have a more mysterious (and a bit tortured) relationship. So we had Harrison (the Groom), portray Nicholas.
Also — all this stationary was custom made by Papermajik
behind the scenes / fun fact – so Harrison & Emily (one of our Weird Sisters) are real life Husband & Wife. We filmed their gorgeous destination wedding at Dogwood Canyon in September 2019! Watch their wedding film here
behind the scenes / did I mention we shot this is August in Orlando, FL, where humidity is 100% and the real feel is 100F? It was so hot & humid so Chris gave us some man made wind with the drone ☺️ check out our Planner, Taber with TaberLeigh Events, loving life under the drone!
AvaElise Events did such an amazing job with decor & florals! They truly brought my idea to life! When we were chatting weeks before this shoot, they even sketched up all these decor concepts just from a Pinterest mood board that I had sent them.
One thing for sure was that I was in love with having a triangle arch behind the Bride & Groom, and they turned it into something so much better than I could’ve imagined!
Our friend Erin with MisFit Cakery has gotta be the queen of fondant and unique cake designs that have an edge! You’ll notice in my video the effect of her cake bleeding — which YES, she does bleeding cakes! The topper to her cake was all hand sculpted and I couldn’t even tell you how she does it. Coupled with the bloody looking geodes on the side, this cake was truly a work of art.
behind the scenes / Theres something about a one take wonder that’s so magical. We did a smoke bomb behind our Bride & Groom while at the cake table, and then just as the smoke was about to pass Olivia’s face, I told her to give a wink right at the camera. We all lost our minds yelling ‘yaaass!’ and laughed so hard! And that’s when I was like, ‘I think thats a wrap!’
You’ll see me showing them the footage and Olivia’s wink:
